The introduction of the Merge network´s “7 Weekly Poker Tournaments” could represent massive value to online poker players due to the timing of the promotion and some anticipated overlays. The one-a-night tournaments are a welcome addition to a tournament schedule which already hosts a number of guaranteed prize events, but the tournaments been launched just as a substantial proportion of the network´s database are about to disappear, and just two weeks before the beginning of the World Series of Poker.
Bad Timing …
The launch of the guaranteed poker tournaments comes just one week after Lock Poker announced that they are going to leave the Merge network and form a relationship with the Cake Poker network – potentially depleting the Merge poker database by 40% including many of the Lock Poker Pro Elite who would have competed in these tournaments. Many other potential participants will be heading off to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for the 2012 World Series of Poker, while the timing of the tournaments is very early evening in the US and late at night in Europe.
… or a Major Gamble?
The gamble of guaranteeing the “7 Weekly poker Tournaments” to $120,000 dollars per week is only going to pay off if ex-Lock players remain loyal to the Merge network after June 1st or sufficient new players register to the Merge Gaming Network to meet the guarantee. Lock Poker (who officially bear no ill-will to Merge Poker) might find it somewhat amusing if Merge Poker has to pull the plug on this promotion so soon after Lock Poker were forced to cancel their own LOCKOPS tournament series.

Fancy Getting Your Hands on Some Value?
Not all online poker players will be able to justify the larger buy-ins from a limited bankroll, but the way that the satellites are arranged on the Merge Poker network enable everybody to get involved. Specific tournaments under the “Satellite” tab offer the prize of a higher value tournament ticket (for example “5 x $109.00 tournament coupons guaranteed”), and many of these qualifiers can also be under-subscribed – doubling the value that is available with the “7 Weekly Poker Tournaments”.
